Red Squirrels At Belle Isle

Red Squirrels At Belle Isle

In an effort to conserve red squirrel populations, knowing where both red squirrel and grey squirrel populations occur is crucial.  As it turns out Belle Isle is haven for these cute creatures and we are encouraging guests to tell us if they sight a red squirrel on the estate.

Fermanagh is thought to be a stronghold for red squirrels, having two of the six Red Squirrel Preferred Areas in Northern Ireland.  The larger areas of woodland on the estate are perfect for these little creatures to survive.  The estate also has native woodland, scrub and lots of  hedgerows to allow squirrels to move safely between habitats and areas.

If you are planning a stay at Belle Isle, keep a look out for one of our red squirrel friends, and please let us know where you have seen them.
