There are 25 film locations throughout Northern Ireland where Game of Thrones has been filmed. Close to Belle Isle Estate in Co. Fermanagh there are a few gems that you can easily explore whilst staying at either Belle Isle Castle, the Belle Isle Courtyard or in one of our lovely cottages. These are great places to explore on your short-break, with friends, or with the children.
One is from Series 3, Beric Dondarrion’s Hideout, Pollnagollum Cave in Belmore Forest which is part of the Marble Arch Caves Global Geopark in Co. Fermanagh. Its name is Irish for ‘hole of the doves’. The cave is fed by a waterfall and swells to a torrent during harsh weather. If you fancy catching a glimpse, you can follow the Belmore Forest walk which leads to a viewing point for the cave. From our award winning accommodation the March Arch Caves are less than thirty minutes drive.
Stay at Belle Isle and explore the other wonders that Northern Ireland’s stunning scenery has to offer when following the Game of Thrones tour. There is so much to see and do when you come and stay.
From the Marble Arch Caves which is worth a full morning, you can drive the short distance to our nearby town of Enniskillen. The drive is wonderful through the beautiful Fermanagh countryside.
Door of Thrones
Experience Northern Ireland Game of Thrones® territory and discover the Doors which tell the story of Season 6
Last year Tourism Ireland saved the wood from two trees at the Dark Hedges – known in Game of Thrones® as the Kingsroad – which fell during Storm Gertrude (2016). The wood was then used to make a series of 10 beautifully engraved doors, each one telling the story of the latest episode in season six.
Door 4 is placed in Blakes of the Hollow in Enniskillen town! The Door features several striking designs, immortalising the Targaryens and Arryns. Renowned for its traditional Irish heritage, Blakes of the Hollow is one of the most famous and well recognised Victorian pubs in Ireland. It is a must see attraction which has graced Co.Fermanagh’s shores for over 125 years. Its a great place to have a warming cup of coffee or something stronger, the food is well worth trying.
There is so much to see and do whilst staying at Belle Isle, Co. Fermanagh. You can rent a boat and explore the lakes, see majestic swans, perhaps cast a fishing line and see whether a monster pike will take your bait. A self catering short break at Belle Isle allows you to have your own privacy and set the pace of your own adventure.
