Enniskillen Castle is a 16th-century castle along the River Erne in Enniskillen Town located just 9 miles north of Belle Isle Estate. Historically a location of strategic importance in military affairs, the Castle is now home to two museums, the Fermanagh County Museum and The Inniskillings Museum. There is also a visitor centre, gift shop and café available for visitors.
The Visitor Centre at the castle will give you all the information you need to get the most out of your visit and find what suits you with lots of great options available at the heritage site.
The Fermanagh County Museum focuses mainly on the history, culture and natural history of the county while The Inniskillings Museum tells the story of the town of Enniskillen’s two regiments, The Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers and the 5th Royal Inniskilling Dragoon Guards. The Inniskillings Museum is housed in the Castle Keep and old cavalry stables and has displays highlighting the history of the regiments from the 17th century during their formation to present.
While at Enniskillen Castle, you can stop for a break at the café or enjoy a walk around the exterior of the castle along the River Erne. You can also pick up a memento in the gift shop.
